Instead of a shortlist of hot-seat head coach candidates, BetOnline released odds on July 23 for every Power 4 conference head man (67 in total as interim HC Frank Reich of Stanford is not included) first to be fired in 2025. Interestingly, three Brents lead the pack..
Among those with the shortest odds, Brent Venables (Oklahoma). He pays out $600 for every $100 bet.
Since 1998, the Oklahoma Sooners have finished below .500 only twice. Unfortunately for current coach Brent Venables, both times it's happened under his watch.
The Sooners are coming off a 6-7 season with a 2-6 record after their first year in the Southeastern Conference. Texas, on the other hand, had little trouble transitioning to the SEC.
Venables is doing what he can to avoid another disastrous season, as noted by SoonersWire.
Venables scrambled staff duties after last season's flop. He took over defensive play-calling. He hired Ben Arbuckle from Washington State as his offensive coordinator, and he tapped hired former Senior Bowl executive Jim Nagy as Oklahoma's general manager. Consider the Sooners all-in on this improve-or-be-fired season for Venables.
