Tigers and Crimson Tide Are Hot in Basketball
As of mid-February, the Auburn Tigers were the favorites to win the 2025 NCAA College Basketball Championship with payouts between 4-1 and 6-1 at most sportsbooks.
The Crimson Tide had the 4th shortest odds to win the championship.
ESPN wrote of Auburn on February 14:
"Following Saturday's home loss to Florida, Bruce Pearl made a tweak to his starting lineup, moving Chad Baker-Mazara to the bench and bringing Chris Moore off it. Moore ended up not playing much against Vanderbilt, scoring just 4 points in 13 minutes, while Baker-Mazara had a scoreless 28 minutes. Pearl said after the game the decision was for health reasons, as Baker-Mazara is "flat-out banged up." But the move also gave Pearl an elite three-man bench group in Baker-Mazara, Chaney Johnson (who scored 20 points) and Tahaad Pettiford. It will be interesting to see whether Pearl rolls with it moving forward."
And, yes, you can bet on Auburn's Johni Broome. He was listed with an Over/Under of 19.5 points scored for the February 15, 2025 game against Alabama.
Broome is the "Player of the Year" frontrunner.
After earning third-team all-America honors last season, Broome put off declaring for the NBA draft to return to Auburn and try to lead the Tigers to a national championship.
This season, he’s averaging 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.
Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats had this to say about Broome ahead of the marquee February 15 matchup:
"Broome is a national player of the year candidate. One of the best bigs in college basketball. For the last few years running, he's alone."
"They've got a zone, they've got a press, they've got this, you know, they've got a lot of different type defensives that we're gonna be ready for."
Alabama's Mark Sears prop bet score total was coming in at 19.5 Over/Under on average, including for the February 15 game against Auburn.
Sears (17.8 PPG, 4.9 APG) leads the Tide, who play at the fastest pace in America. Under Oats, they launch 3-pointers almost half the time they have the ball -- and they score in barrages (they've reached 100 points in seven games this season).
