The infomap below, courtesy of BetOnline.ag, is based on geotagged X data during the last 30 days.  BetOnline, we would note, is also offering betting on tariffs and other economic factors as well as all things President Donald Trump (as well as his administration).

Tariffs on Pause

Facing a global market meltdown, Trump on Wednesday abruptly backed down on his tariffs on most nations for 90 days, but raised the tax rate on Chinese imports to 125%.

The study tracked negative sentiment tweets and hashtags about the new tariffs enacted by President Donald Trump.

The Dow closed at just shy of 3000 following four straight days of significant losses

What the USA Thinks of Tariffs

For example, "I hate tariffs," "tariffs are hurting the economy," "tariffs are hurting the stock market," "tariffs are affecting jobs," "(Expletive) the tariffs," "trade war," "retaliatory tariffs," "screw the tariffs," #tradewar, #UStradeware, etc.

More than 330,000 tweets were analyzed in the study.

As you can see from the map, the upper Midwest, Northeast and West Coast have the most negative view of the tariff situation.

This is likely due to the political ideology of the region. However, that doesn't explain why a state like Michigan ranks first. Michigan is possibly at the top of the list due to the potential effects on the auto industry, and fears about how tariffs will affect automotive jobs in that state.
