Acquisition of BetDSI and a New Direction
As previously reported by Gambling911.com, long established Bookmaker.eu is looking to run a tighter ship by transitioning into a more recreational model. A number of long time sharp sports bettors have confirmed they are no longer able to access certain niche betting markets.
This coincides with Bookmaker.eu merging with BetDSI. BetDSI first opened offshore as Diamond Sports International in 1998 with partners "Stretch" and "Dino". It originally established operations on Isla de Margarita, Venezuela before relocating to San Jose, Costa Rica approximately three years later.
For the better part of a decade, BetDSI operated along side Bookmaker.eu before opting to branch out on its own. That experiment doesn't appear to have worked out as customer payout complaints began mounting over the past year. Customer service as also said to be "unreachable" most of the time.
Bookmaker branched off from Costa Rica International Sports (better known these days as BetCRIS). That company started operating way back in 1986 in the Dominican Republic. Interestingly, the company's original plan was to have Bookmaker branch out into a more recreational sportsbook while BetCRIS would cater to sharps. Ultimately, BetCRIS moved into the Latin American market where it continues to thrive. Because BetCRIS stopped accepting U.S. customers well over a decade ago, the company was granted a license to operate in the state of Arizona.
Bookmaker.eu once relied heavily on "sheets" created through direct relations with agents. Their affiliate program was once tried and true, recording with the type of accuracy you won't always find with online gambling site affiliate programs these days. Bookmaker appears to have switched to a new affiliate platform a couple years ago.
Bookmaker.eu, despite reducing its marketing expenditure since 2018, still continues to take in new business via web searches. The term "bookmaker", for which Bookmaker.ag reigns supreme atop Google, receives approximately 2,000–4,000 U.S. Google searches per month. That's nowhere near terms such as "Sportsbook", "Sports Betting" or "Online Casinos", but it is still lucrative nonetheless.
Global search volume, however, is a different story entirely. Here we are talking roughly 80,000–150,000 per month, driven primarily by the UK, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, and other English-speaking betting markets. Even a modest ability to capitalize on this search volume would explain why the company is leaning in on recreational bettors more than ever before.
Some have even quipped that the BetDSI-Bookmaker deal is more along the lines of a reverse merger. Think in terms of US Airways taking over American Airlines, keeping the American Airlines name but being managed by US Airways management. The latter was viewed as a less premium brand, but in reality US Airways was the more profitable in the end and the more dominant player in that merger.
While we're not buying this concept as it applies to the BetDSI-Bookmaker deal, it's not entirely far fetched to think that BetDSI management might have some degree of influence here. Bookmaker was full of old schoolers and it is survival of the fittest in the new environment. The need to adapt has never been greater.
Long time customers are now claiming Bookmaker has reduced many of their favorite betting market options.
Caramba at BookmakerReview writes:
"Hello. As of today I can no longer access markets I previously were able to see, including which team will win the World Cup? I'm just seeing Triple Chance and Highest Scoring Team under Odds to Win. How is it for you guys, do you have the "Who will win the World Cup" market here? I am getting nowhere with cs, they just tell me they don't offer this market to non recreational customers."
Vegas from that same forum experienced the same:
"NASCAR matchups, baseball props, WNBA props, international baseball, college baseball. All gone. Probably lots more that I never paid much attention to or can't confirm for sure that they're gone. Getting up to $1k on a lot of that stuff a week ago, now nothing. Wild that they wouldn't just cut limits to 10% or something. Went downhill pretty fast after betcris got the US branding."
And BTCFan had this to offer:
"No WC props for me today. Unbelievable. They have become afraid of their own shadow. NFL props are likely going to be dead if they can kill this market. I don't get the WC decision. That makes next to no sense. Rather bet at b105 on main markets or lowvig instead of this."
It's not clear how many customers outside of those identified as "sharp" have been impacted by these changes.
Payouts can be done by cryptocurrencies and, as always, Bookmaker.eu is among the fastest, with some customers reporting funds in their crypto wallets in under two hours.
