Virginia is now ranked number one in the nation. They were coming in as the -6.5 road favorite in Miami. This number is a full two points higher than it should be according to the College Basketball Betting Power Ratings.
It's interesting to note that Miami has either won or lost by fewer points than the current spread in the last three meetings between these two teams, thus making the Hurricanes a solid play on Tuesday night.
Virginia did achieve the number one ranked status oddly enough after suffering only their second loss on the season against vival Virginia Tech the other night.
We almost stole that game," Virginia coach Tony Bennett said. "But that's what it would have been, stealing that game. They outplayed us. I told our guys, 'I liked some of the shots and the plays you made and stretches of stops to get back in that game, to put it to overtime,' but even when we had the lead one time we fell down.
"We missed some free throws and had a couple miscues. You can't do that if you're going to steal one."
The Canes have just six losses on the season but their latest defeat against Boston College managed to knock them out of the Top 25 in the AP Rankings.
