It is the Sooners that should be favored here by one point.

Having a player like Trae Young means Oklahoma always has a chance to win regardless of the opponent, Charlie Creme of ESPN.com suggests.

He writes:

Young's shooting range and vision help spread the floor and open up opportunities for his teammates. That was certainly happening more in November and December and happened again late in the season against Kansas State and Iowa State, where Young was more shot-creator than shot-taker.

The problem is that Oklahoma not only went an unimpressive 18-13 Straight Up on the season, they were destroyed Against The Spread, going 10-20.  They failed to cover in all but two of their final ten games.

They went 4-11 Straight Up in their past 15 games.

Oklahoma will not get far in this year's tournament.  They gave up 81.6 points per game.

The NCAA College Basketball Betting Power Ratings do indicate Oklahoma has a shot at advancing to the next round however with a one-point edge.  Rhode Island does look like the better team here, hence the fact that oddsmakers (at least early on) are making the Rams a -1.5 favorite.

Rhode Island also endured a late slide, though not quite as bad (losing four of ten).

They went 25-7 and held onto a 16-13-1 record Against The Spread.  They covered in four of their last ten as well.

While Rhode Island ranks third in the nation in forcing opponents into miscues the guards are prone to becoming impatient and force perimeter 2s.
