For the first time in a month the Brooklyn Nets are on a losing streak and ending that slide isn’t going to be easy with the East-leading Milwaukee Bucks paying a visit to Barclays Center on Monday.

The Nets are in unfamiliar territory two games over .500 and sixth in the conference as they look to reach the postseason for the first time in four years. After dropping their last two on the road, the Nets are back home where they’ve won nine in a row.

Odds Analysis

Owners of the NBA’s best record, the Bucks also have the East’s top road mark and will put that on the line against a struggling Nets squad. Milwaukee puts a five-game road trip to bed on Monday, having won the last three after dropping the opener in OKC.

While the Nets are experiencing their first losing streak in a month, the Bucks have yet to endure one. That’s right, they haven’t lost back-to-back games all season and they handled Brooklyn easily when the teams met for the first time this season at the end of December, covering the 11-point spread in a 129-115 home win. Milwaukee has won three straight and nine of its last 10 by going 6-1 on the road in that stretch. Overall this season the Bucks are 16-9 SU and 13-10-2 ATS away from home.

A return home could be what the Nets need to put an end to their two-game slide. They haven’t lost three straight games since the beginning of December when they dropped eight in a row. They’ve been on a roll since then, however, going 20-8 overall with nine consecutive home victories. They will have to pick things up a notch with West co-leaders Denver coming in after this one and 19 of their remaining games against teams currently at or above .500.

Bucks

Just like he’s done all season in his MVP quest, Giannis Antetokounmpo is spearheading the Bucks attack. They moved 25 games above .500 for the first time in 32 years by knocking off Washington over the weekend behind 37 points from The Freak. He topped the 30-point mark for the 21st time this season with the Bucks improving to 16-5 in those games. He’s topped 30 points four times during Milwaukee’s current stretch of nine wins in 10 games and he’s averaging 26.6 points per game.

The starting five has to be the best unit in the East and possibly the entire NBA, though the Warriors would put up a good argument with their All-Star laced group. Still, all five average double figures and play over 28 minutes per game. Eric Bledsoe missed the last game with a sore leg, but his replacement Tony Snell scored 10 points with five assists.

Nets

It was all fun and games for the Nets until a pair of losses brought them down a peg. Along with the Bucks, they are one of the biggest surprises in the Association this year, but now that we’re getting into crunch time is the pressure catching up with them? They get a wonderful chance to prove they are a legitimate playoff team while holding on to one of the bottom eight spots. The Nets are coming off one of their worst performances in some time in a 102-89 loss to Orlando. They shot just 36.3 percent and committed 19 turnovers.

DeAngelo Russell has blossomed into the floor leader for the Nets and was named to the All-Star team as a replacement. He tallied 23 points against the Magic and was the only player who did anything in that game. He’s averaging nearly 20 points per game and has taken over the scoring slack for Spencer Dinwiddie, who remains sidelined with an injury.

Russell didn’t play when the teams met earlier in the season, so the Nets have that going for them. And they’ve been good at home with nine straight victories and 13 in their last 14 games. However, they didn’t play Milwaukee in that stretch and the Bucks are the cream of the crop in the East. The Nets have problems on defense and the Bucks are one of the most efficient teams on offense, which isn’t a good combo for the home team. I expect Antetokounmpo to go off and Milwaukee’s starters will have a big night collectively getting the Bucks another win.

NBA Score Prediction: Bucks 117, Nets 109
