Harvard Crimson Odds to Win NCAA Tournament Was 75-1 Before Shock Upset

Harvard had odds of winning the 2013 NCAA Tournament that were at 75/1 prior to their upset win over New Mexico Thursday night, the biggest upset of the tournament thus far (odds courtesy of Bookmaker here).

Of course, Harvard’s odds of winning the Men’s NCAA Tournament Championship are still extremely slim.  But then again, this number 14 seed was not supposed to beat New Mexico either.

Wesley Saunders 18 points and Laurent Rivard making five 3-pointers helped contribute to the 68-62 victory.  The 14th-seeded Crimson made 8 of their 18 3 point attempts -- and shot 44.4 percent overall.

"America, we are sorry for messing up your brackets and also your financial system and everything else," tweeted the jokesters at the Harvard Lampoon.

And this from Harvard's most famous hoops alum, Jeremy Lin: "YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!! HARVARD winssss!!! hahahahhah i told you," he tweeted shortly after the victory.

"This is the No. 1 moment in my career," said Harvard senior Christian Webster, who finished with 11 points. "The thought came to mind that this could be the last game. We showed a lot of toughness, just persevering."

Harvard will take on 6th-seeded Arizona next.
