It should be a great pitching matchup on Tuesday night as the Atlanta Braves host the Philadelphia Phillies. With the win yesterday, the Braves moved ahead of the Phillies into first place in the baseball National League East.  The Phillies simply are not scoring any runs lately and that is why they have fallen out of the top spot.  It won't get any easier on Tuesday as they face Atlanta's Tim Hudson who has an ERA of 2.24 this season.

Current Line: Braves - 132, Total 7.5 Flat

Hudson has been brilliant this MLB season going 5-1 with an ERA just above two.

Hudson's last start was interrupted by rain so he didn't get a decision.  In the month of May Hudson had an ERA of 1.59.  Hamels is pitching better of the late for the Phillies. He is now 5-3 on the season with a 3.82 ERA.  He gave up two earned runs last time out against the Mets in 6 1/3 innings.  He was 3-1 in May with a 2.45 ERA.

The Braves routed the Phillies 9-3 on Monday as Troy Glaus hit a three-run home run. It was a great month of May for Glaus who hit .330 with six home runs.  The Phillies would sure like to have someone hitting the ball like Glaus is.  Philadelphia entered yesterday's game against the Braves having been shut out five times in eight games.  Things are going so bad for the Phillies that even when manager Charlie Manuel got ejected it didn't help.  He was ejected in the third inning on Monday for arguing with home-plate umpire Larry Vanover.

Here are the baseball betting stats for Tuesday's game. The Phillies are 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The Phillies are 5-2 in their last 7 games as an underdog. The Phillies are 5-1 in Hamels' last 6 starts. The Phillies are 9-3 in Hamels' last 12 starts vs. the Braves.

The Braves are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a left-handed starter. The Braves are 6-0 in their last 6 home games. The Braves are 4-0 in Hudson's last 4 starts. The Braves are 0-4 in Hudson's last 4 starts vs. the Phillies.

The Under is 14-3 in the Phillies last 17 vs. the National League East. The Under is 18-7-1 in the Phillies last 26 overall. The Under is 5-0 in Hamels' last 5 starts overall. The Over is 3-1-1 in the Braves last 5 home games.  The Over is 4-1 in Hudson's last 5 starts as a home favorite.
