Cooper Criswell has been pitching solid for Boston, going 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA.
Criswell threw five shutout innings in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing two runs while striking out four and walking one. Prior to that he blanked the Guardians for five innings. His prior start was also against the Guardians where he gave up four runs — one earned — over 2 1/3 innings.
Joe Ryan (1-1, 3.38 ERA) will be starting for the Twins.
Ryan gave up two runs over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the White Sox and, before that, allowed three runs with eight strikeouts across six innings in a win over the White Sox.

The Twins have won high-scoring games and pitchers' duels at this point. The Red Sox will now have to face the Twins' ace Joe Ryan in the series finale. Ryan is a swing-and-miss pitcher which should play in his favor in this game. The Red Sox strike out frequently and have several key pieces missing that have affected their offense. Red Sox starter Criswell has pitched well since being called up, with a .098 WHIP to his credit, but he gets a lot of balls put in play which should give the Twins an advantage in this game.
