The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Washington Nationals tonight is a game of two teams looking for the season to end. It's been an unfortunate season for both of these teams, especially the home Diamondbacks. It will be interesting to see if either of these teams can play with enough pride down the stretch to play the role of spoiler. The Diamondbacks are -119 favorites tonight, with a total of 9.5 runs expected. First pitch of this National League battle will be at 9:40 EDT.

Arizona is a completely new team after the Trading Deadline, and that's not necessarily a good thing. Arizona had a firesale, literally gutting their former roster. Out with the old, and in with the new should be the new team motto. Arizona has struggled all year long, as they are only 39-66 SU this season. The Diamondbacks are -24.96 and -18.48 units both SU and on the RL this season. The Diamondbacks are 3-7 in their last 10 home games against a right-handed starter. Arizona 18-42 in their last 60 games overall. The Diamondbacks are 5-16 in their last 21 home games against a team with a losing record. Arizona is 1-4 in their last 5 games against the National League East. The Diamondbacks are 1-7 in their last 8 home games against a team with a road winning percentage less than .400%.

The Diamondbacks are 7-21 in their last 28 games against a team with a losing record. The Over is 8-1 in their last 9 games during game 1 of a series.

Washington has come back down to earth after starting the season with such promise. The Nationals are now 46-59 SU this season, 13.5 games behind the National League East lead. Part of the long term issues for this Washington team is their road record, where they are only 17-36 SU. Washington is -1.24 and -3.48 units both SU and on the Rl respectively this year. P Livan Hernandez will make the road start tonight, as he is 7-7 with an ERA of 3.22 and a WHIP of 1.26 this season. The Nationals are 6-2 in their last 8 games during game 1 of a series. Washington is 4-0 in Hernandez's last 4 starts during game 1 of a series. The Nationals are 15-5 in Hernandez's last 20 starts against a team with a losing record. Washington is 1-4 in Hernandez's last 5 road starts against a team with a losing record. The Nationals are 1-8 in Hernandez's last 9 starts against the National League West.

The Nationals are 0-4 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400%. The Over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the National League West.

Pregame.com projects the final score to be 7-6 in favor of the Washington Nationals. The OVER 9.5 runs is the Total of the Day!
