OAKLAND PARK, Fla (Gambling911.com) - Rhett Marques won his Republican primary in Alabama’s in a newly drawn 2nd Congressional District. He also had a 68% chance of winning against his Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures, at prediction markets.
But one of the nation’s top election forecasters has changed its outlook from “Tilts Republican" to the more competitive "Lean Republican".
Sabato’s Crystal Ball issued the shocking forecast over the last 24 hours.
BetOnline regularly updates its election odds with Alabama Senate and House betting available.
Marques was backed by US President Donald Trump, and the new map is expected to make the district more favorable to Republicans. The race is part of Alabama’s redistricting-driven special elections ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The Alabama Political Reporter writes:
"While Sabato’s Crystal Ball maintained Marques’ edge in the CD2 race, the report highlighted previous DCCC polling that showed Figures tied with Marques while emphasizing Figures’ incumbent advantage and the likelihood of high Black voter turnout benefiting Figures."
