Rombauer's Competitors

Rombauer faces a stronger field than what he encountered in this year's Preakness Stakes race.

They include six Kentucky Derby entries that skipped the Preakness as well as three holdovers from that race and two entirely new entrants.

Kentucky Derby favorite Essential Quality is running as is Hot Rod Charlie, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby, one place ahead of Essential Quality.

Hot Rod Charlie will be ridden on Saturday by Flavien Pratt, who was aboard Rombauer in the Preakness victory.

Essential Quality won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes as a Kentucky Derby warmup on April 3. Rombauer finished third in that race – 5.5 lengths behind the winner.

Essential Quality also finished ahead of Rombauer in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 6.

Florida Derby winner Known Agenda and Santa Anita Derby winner Rock Your World will also be running.  Both had poor showings in this year's Kentucky Derby.

Time and Where to Watch

The 2021 Belmont Stakes has a scheduled post time of 6:47 p.m. EST Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. NBC will televise the race.

This year’s Belmont Stakes will return to the tradition distance of 12 furlongs (1.5 miles) after being contested at 9 furlongs in 2020.
