You can bet on whether there will be a Triple Crown winner in 2022 with the payout odds coming in at just shy of 7-1.  You would win $650 on a $100 bet or $65 on a $10 bet.

Triple Crown History (US Horse Racing)

Though we went through a stretch of nearly 40 years without a Triple Crown winner, there have been two in the past decade.

American Pharoah won it in 2015 and Justify did so in 2018.  Prior to that there had not been a Triple Crown winner since 1978.  That was the year Affirmed took the crown.

Interestingly enough there were three Triple Crown winners during the 1970s that included Seattle Slew and Secretariat as well as Affirmed.

With no clear cut favorite heading into this year's Kentucky Derby, the payout odds are that much greater.

Which Prep Races Produced Triple Crowns Recently?

Justify first attracted attention with a win in his debut race on February 18, 2018. His big Kentucky Derby prep race win was the Grade One Santa Anita Derby that qualified him for that year's Kentucky Derby. Justify then won that race and the 2018 Preakness Stakes and 2018 Belmont Stakes to win the Triple Crown. He was retired a few weeks after the Belmont Stakes to become the first American Triple Crown winner never to lose a race.

Taiba is this year's Santa Anita Derby winner and flirting with favorite status entering the Kentucky Derby.

American Pharoah had his big Kentucky Derby prep race win at the Rebel Stakes.

This year's Rebel Stakes winner entered that one at 75-1 odds.  One-eyed Un Ojo will not be participating in this year's Kentucky Derby however.
