Lawler was coming in at +195, Covington -230.

With Covington expected to beat Lawler, at least in the oddsmakers eyes, UFC President Dana White has said the title shot is his.

“Covington is next in line, and he stepped up, he took this Lawler fight, and he’ll get the (title fight),” White said, speaking at a post-UFC 240 news conference.

Covington is the former interim welterweight champion.

"It kind of came out of nowhere, but I was just kind of like, 'Whatever,'" Lawler told ESPN regarding the call to fight this Saturday night. "If it's an exciting fight and it's against one of the top names or top-ranked guys, usually I'm ready to go."

Covington versus Lawler on Saturday at Prudential Center will set up the rest of the year and beyond for the UFC's talent-rich 170-pound division.

The title picture in the welterweight division should clear up when the UFC hits Newark, New Jersey, on Saturday.  All bets should be in by 3 pm ET. In the main event, top contender Colby Covington takes on former champion Robbie Lawler, with a title shot likely next for Covington should he earn a victory. "Chaos" is on a six-fight win streak but hasn't fought in over a year. Lawler, meanwhile, hasn't won in the Octagon in over two years.

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
