Ohio lawmakers are attempting to push through legislation but are running into obstacles in the form of which entity will regulate the industry as well as opposition from the professional sports leagues.

The good news is that Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is likely to back any bill that shows up on his desk.

He also suggest the Casino Control Commission as the Ohio sports betting regulator.

Unlike in most states. 2019 Ohio bills will not expire at the end of this year as the state is at the front end of a two-year session.

Sports betting in Ohio will have little bite should the state follow the lead of New Jersey and Illinois, both of which prohibit betting on games that feature state schools.  The Ohio State Buckeyes are among the most wagered on and successful college football programs in the country.
