The early line on the South Carolina vs. East Carolina game had the Gamecocks as a +2 road dog with live odds here at BetOnline (maximum welcome bonus $1000).

South Carolina entered the season favored to win fewer than 4 regular season games.  They did manage to win their first game of the season, a 46-0 shutout of FCS Eastern Illinois.

It was Shane Beamer's first game as South Carolina's head coach.

"What a special night," Beamer said. "A lot to build upon. A lot of good, a lot of things to correct, obviously, but so happy for our players. I just told them that in the locker room. As special as tonight was for me, and as exciting for me personally, the most rewarding part, the most fun was just seeing the smiles on their faces and the joy in that locker room right now.

"We are always going to celebrate wins. The fun they had out there on the field tonight. I just love coaching these guys. I love being the head coach at South Carolina and what a way to start it tonight, without a doubt."

Starting quarterback Zeb Noland completed 13 of 22 passes for 121 yards and four touchdowns, with no turnovers.

Eastern Carolina opened the 2021 season as a -145 favorite to win at least five games.  They failed to do so in Week 1.

Chase Brice threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns and Appalachian State ran for 226 yards to beat the Pirates 33-19 in a season opener on Thursday night.
