What Are the Payout Odds on Magnum Moon Winning the Kentucky Derby?

Magnum Moon, winner of the Arkansas Derby and Rebel Stakes, looks like a great value to win this year's Kentucky Derby with a payout potential of just over $70 for every $10 bet.

Magnum Moon, along with Justify, must overcome the Curse of Apollo.

It stems from the fact that no unraced juvenile has won the Derby since Apollo, way back in 1882. While many "Derby rules" have fallen by the wayside in recent years, the Apollo Curse has proven rather ironclad.

Don't tell this to his trainer Todd Pletcher.

“We always thought a lot of him, from early on when was at my dad's training center as a yearling and as a 2-year-old,” trainer Todd Pletcher said after the colt’s Rebel Stakes win.

Mike Curry of AmericasBestRacing.net writes: Magnum Moon exceeded expectations in the Rebel, pulling away impressively in the stretch after stalking the pace and rolling to a 3 ½-length win over what was considered a deep, talented field.
