Tenfold breezed five furlongs at Churchill Downs in 1:01.60 and finished the Preakness Stakes in 3rd place. He was the biggest long shot coming into that race.
“I think his Preakness solidified his quality, and the fact that he’s continued to train well since has a lot of people talking about him that weren’t before,” Trainer Steve Asmussen said.
Tenfold is by Curlin, who ran second in the 2007 Belmont, and out of a mare by Tapit, who has produced a number of top runners at a mile and a half, including 2017 winner Tapwrit, HorseRacingNation.com noted.
“The horse is in a really nice rhythm right now,” Asmussen said. “I feel that he’s 100 percent. I really like his state of mind going into this. Nothing but respect for the field, but I think he’ll represent well.”
