  • Italy's Paltrinieri is the current 1500 m freestyle (short course) world record holder.
  • He is the Olympic and world long course and short course champion.
  • Paltrinieri is the three-times European long course champion in the 1500 m freestyle event at the 2012, 2014 and 2016 European Aquatics Championships.
  • He is also the two-times European long course champion in the 800 m freestyle event.
  • Mykhailo Romanchuk, who represents Ukraine, is favored at some books over Paltrinieri but we have him paying $200 for every $100 bet.
  • Romanchuk holds several distance freestyle national records.
  • He set a world cup record of 14:15.49 in the 1500 meter freestyle (short course) in 2016 at the the Singapore World Cup leg.
