According to Bill King of Sports Business Journal, the NFL will begin allowing up to six sportsbook websites to advertise during NFL games, one per quarter, one during the pregame and one during halftime.

NBC, Fox, CBS, and ESPN will each be allowed to show advertisements for FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars, the first two already enjoying heavy exposure throughout other live sporting events. FoxBet, BetMGM, PointsBet, and WynnBet will also now be able to advertise during games.

”We were focused on how we can include sports betting ads in a thoughtful way with sports betting going national now, with over half the population having access to sports betting,” NFL Chief Strategy Officer Chris Halpin told SBJ. “How do we include it in a way to serve those fans and those partners while also not overwhelming the game broadcasts?”

Some of these companies are likely to air their ads in states where they are not yet licensed.  This is a common practice in the New York City Metropolitan area where sportsbook advertising is prevalent and targetted at those living in New Jersey while New York is yet to offer mobile wagering.  The New York City media market covers the northern half of New Jersey and southeast portions of Connecticut.

The regular 2021 NFL season will run from Thu, Sep 9, 2021 through Sun, Jan 9, 2022.
