Jon Rahm has the best payout odds to win the 2021 US Open at 10-1 followed by Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson, each at 16-1 odds.

All eyes will be on Rahm, who was forced out of the Memorial two weeks ago due to a positive Covid result while holding a 6-shot lead.

He is now cleared to play.

“After two negative test in a 24 hour span and being cleared by health officials, it’s time to get ready for the US Open. Vamos!!” Rahm tweeted Saturday afternoon, adding an animated GIF of movie character Rambo.

Despite Koepka's relatively short odds of winning the US Open, he missed the cut at the Palmetto Championship by two shots this past week.  Koepka is seeking his third US Open win in five years.

“I just need tournament reps and trying to hit different shots on your competition,” Koepka said on Friday. “I’ve missed so much of the season just with the knee, where I feel like I’m already a little bit behind. I like where my game’s at. I’m striking it well, putting it well. So I don’t see anything wrong. It’s just, like I said, maybe a little lack of focus and maybe — these weeks before the majors, I start thinking about next week instead of where I’m at. It’s not an excuse, but it just needs to be better. I need to be where I’m at currently, even more present in this tournament than thinking about next week.”

Another storyline entering this week's tournament: Can Phil Mickelson do it again?

Last month, Mickelson became the oldest golfer to ever win a major tournament.  His payout odds are quite generous, $6000 for every $100 bet.

Mickelson has not won at Torrey Pines since a redesign of the course in 2002. Prior to that time, he had won on three different occasions at Torrey Pines.

“I think it’s just about momentum, and I do think to a large degree you can throw it out heading into a U.S. Open,” Jim “Bones” Mackay said of Mickelson’s recent history at Torrey.  Mackey, now an analyst for NBC, was once Mickelson's long time caddy.  “It’s one thing to maybe not find the motivation to play there in February when the regular PGA Tour event is played, but let’s face it, he’s got all the runners-up in the U.S. Open. He’s coming off this amazing PGA Championship win. …

“It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he got right in the mix and all those thoughts that he’s got about his performance there of late or about the golf course is going to go right out the window because the bottom line is they’re going to be giving out a trophy on Sunday and he wants it as bad or more than anybody else in the field.”

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
