Opposition is expected and a second license would likely be required.

Indiana has already legalized sports betting both via mobile devices and in 14 state casinos.

Senate Bill 417 would permit those casinos and racinos to offer internet casino games and online poker.

A main proponent of Web poker in the US, Sheldon Adelson, passed away this week at the age of 87.

Sports wagering has boosted the Hoosier State's economy with $313 million taken in last month and shattering the previous record of $251 million set in November.

“A lot went right this fall for sportsbooks, and it was on full display in December,” said Jessica Welman, analyst for PlayIndiana.com. “The Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame and Indiana football all continued to attract significant wagering. Then a full month of college basketball, which is more important in Indiana than almost anywhere else, and the start of the NBA season added a year-end boost.”
