Nigeria Odds to Win FIFA Women's World Cup 2019

Nigeria was a long shot to win the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup at 250/1, and likely with good reason.  They will be grouped with France, the team with the second shortest odds of winning the title.   Team USA is favored.

Nigeria booked its appearance in the 2019 Women's World Cup by winning its ninth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations.

The Falcons failed to score in either semi-final matches against Cameroon or Banyana Banyana, winning both matches on penalties.

They will face off against Norway Saturday June 8, South Korea on the 12th and mighty France June 17.

Swedish Football coach and head coach of the Nigeria Women's Football team Thomas Dennerby has warned not to take the Nigeria side lightly.

"Football is life in Nigeria and they always have the feeling they can beat everybody."

He tells CNN: "I've never been somewhere where everybody talks about football and the games. Everybody knows about football," Dennerby tells CNN Sport."

From CNN:

Dennerby, who guided his native Sweden to third place at the 2011 Women's World Cup, became head coach of Nigeria's senior women, better known as the Super Falcons, last January. His task is twofold: maintaining Nigeria's stranglehold on the women's game in Africa, while developing the team into a world force. Such change won't happen overnight.

Selectively chosen statistics would suggest Nigeria is merely a few rungs of a ladder below the world's best.
