It is, of course, impossible to get everything correct, but it’s altogether too easy to believe that your picks are terrible after just a couple of weeks of the season. We should all know by now that the early games are very often no indication of how a team will end up over the course of the season. It can sometimes take the favorites a minute to get rolling, so this is certainly not the time for any fan base to start panicking. The divisions in the AL are not as we expected right now, especially in the East, where the defending World Series champion Red Sox are struggling. The Yankees are starting to come good in that division after a slow start, with the same story taking place with the Astros over in the West. These two are among the favorites to win the AL so this should be a fun series to watch. The Astros are favored by 1 ½ on Monday night, with the run total set at 8.

Why bet on the New York Yankees

The general consensus is that the AL East is going to eventually turn into a 2-horse race featuring the Yankees and the Red Sox. Boston are not yet holding up their end of the bargain, but the Yankees have suddenly sprung to life, winning 3 in a row to get to 5-4 on the season, which leaves them a game and a half back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the East. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that New York have been wobbly at home, while winning all 3 on the road, which just happened to be a sweep of the Orioles over the weekend. As expected, though, this team can score, hammering in 49 runs thus far, with 29 of those runs coming over the last 3 games. The Yankees have gone 6-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings with Houston. Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 1.46 ERA) will get the start.

Why bet on the Houston Astros

The Astros have had a very similar start to the season as the Yankees have had, starting out below .500 before winning 3 in a row to get to 5-5. Unlike the Yankees, though, the Astros have started to win since arriving back home, where they are a perfect 3-0. This is a team that has been defensively sound to start the year, but who have had difficulty driving in runs, scoring just 33 runs through the first 10 games. The Astros have been a really poor bet when going against the spread, as they have managed to go just 2-8 ATS this season. That, combined with their recent ATS record versus the Yankees, makes them a serious doubt here. They will send Justin Verlander (1-0, 4.09 ERA) to the mound on Monday.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think that the Astros are about to get on a bit of a roll now that they are back home, but I also believe that this will be a close one. Let’s go with Houston to get the win, but I believe that the best bet here is the Yankees to cover.

New York Yankees 3 Houston Astros 4
