NFL Betting – New York Giants at New England Patriots

Eli Manning has played some of his best games in the biggest moments for the New York Giants against the New England Patriots. Those days are no longer. Manning was benched in favor of rookie Daniel Jones after on 0-2 start and the G-Men had won two in a row before that streak came to a crushing end last week against Minnesota, with Jones losing for the first time as a starter. The Pats just keep winning games, improving to 6-0 with last week’s 33-7 cover win over Washington, putting an end to Jay Gruden’s tenure as coach of the Skins, and they are one of just two unbeaten teams left in the NFL. The Pats are -17 on the current NFL betting line putting them as a favorite of at least 15 points in four of six games.

Odds Analysis

The Patriots are and have been a popular public play, and their success this season has carried over to offshore sportsbooks. Opening as a 15-point favorite for this Thursday night tilt, the Pats were hastily wagered up to a 17-point fave thanks to a high percentage of early money backing them. For the third time already this season the Pats are laying at least two touchdowns and they improved to 2-1 ATS in those games by downing the Skins, 33-7, as a 15.5-point road favorite. With several key offensive contributors on both sides ruled out for the game, the opening total of 46.5 tumbled all the way down to its current 40.5.

New York Giants

The future is now for the Giants, unfortunately a lot of the figures expected to be a big part of the offense post-Eli are sitting this one out. Saquon Barkley continues to mend from an ankle injury and will not play. His backup, Wayne Gallman, was concussed in last week’s contest and hasn’t cleared the protocol. The Giants are expected to turn to undrafted rookie Jonathan Hilliman and Elijhaa Penny to split time in the backfield.

The good news is that those two got some game action last week after Gallman exited. Hilliman played 65 percent of the offensive snaps with nine rush attempts for 20 yards. He also caught a pass. Penny wasn’t used nearly as much playing just 35 percent of the snaps, but he made the most of his time with 15 yards on three carries. The bad news is that they will try and run against the NFL’s third-best rush defense and the top unit overall.

With the run game in dire straits pressure will be on Jones to deliver points through the air. That might be a problem as well with the team’s top two receivers – Evan Engram and Sterling Shepherd – also ruled out. At least the offensive line is healthy, and the group has been strong. The best chance the Giants have is to play defense, something they didn’t do last week giving up nearly 500 total yards to the Vikings.

New England Patriots

It’s a lot of the same old stuff from the Pats, who continued along with their perfect season by dispatching the woeful Redskins last week. They are good, but the Pats have had a soft schedule which has helped pad the stats. Three of their victories came against teams that have yet to win a game, so the jury may still be out. They did, however, hammer Pittsburgh in the opener when Ben Roethlisberger was still in the lineup.

New England’s only game against a decent club so far also happened to be the closest one. The Pats edged Buffalo, 16-10, on the road a few weeks back, which was also one of their two ATS losses. Still, you have to play the game and the Pats have been excellent in every phase. The Buffalo game is the only time they didn’t reach the 30-point mark, and the defense has been lights out.

The top-ranked unit did its thing last week, albeit against a scuffling Skins team and a quarterback who hadn’t played in nearly a year. The Pats allowed an early touchdown on a long run then settled down. They held the Skins to 223 total yards and sacked Colt McCoy six times. Washington was just 1 of 11 on third down and the Pats are the best in that category with opponents converting just 12.7 percent of third-down chances.

Bet Giants at Patriots at BookMaker.eu

New England hasn’t lost a regular season home game in two years posting a 15-0 SU and 12-3 ATS record since falling to Carolina on Oct. 1, 2017. Toss in three postseason wins and the streak is at 18 overall. I don’t see that ending on Thursday. Considering the names that aren’t playing, the proper bet is taking the under on the point total.

NFL Score Prediction: New England 23, NY Giants 10
