Playing their first divisional game of the season the Los Angeles Rams head north to take on the scuffling San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 Sunday Night Football. The Rams had the benefit of playing every team in the worst division helping them burst to a 4-1 record. Entering Week 6 of the NFL season the NFC East had a combined record of 4-15-1. You still have to win the game and the Rams were impressive taking down the team formerly known as the Redskins last week. The Niners, meanwhile, look to end a two-game losing streak after getting blasted by the Dolphins last week.  Bookmaker.eu is offering a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

Injuries and poor play have turned a lot of bettors off the Niners. Opening as a 3-point favorite on the early line, that number jumped the fence after Frisco was blitzed at home 43-17 by Miami. That came after a 25-20 home loss to Philadelphia. The Niners closed as a hefty 8.5-point favorite in both games. The Rams are currently -3.5 on the NFL betting line and look to take advantage of another struggling team. LA is coming off a 30-10 triumph over Washington covering the 7-point line. The Rams ended a two-game ATS slide moving to 3-2 ATS on the year. The Rams cashed the UNDER in their last two games, but we saw the total spike two points to its current 51.5. The teams have cashed the OVER five times in the last seven meetings.

Los Angeles Rams

Not much was expected from the Rams this season after gutting their roster to clear cap space during the offseason. So winning four times in their first five games is a bit surprising. Sure, those wins came against teams from the worst division in football, but they are wins that count just the same in the standings. There are a few holdovers and two of the best are on the defensive side of the football where the Rams have shined this year.

Holding four opponents to fewer than 20 points has the Rams perched as the third-best scoring defense in the NFL. With lock down corner Jalen Ramsey and the most disruptive force in Aaron Donald, the Rams have made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks. Donald had three of the Rams eight sacks last week vaulting him into the league lead with 7.5. As a team the Rams are tied for the most sacks in the NFL with 20.

Jared Goff is leading a productive offense that averages nearly 404 yards per game. Goff is completing 71.7 percent of his throws with eight touchdown passes and a 108.8 passer rating. Without Todd Gurley most though the ground game would suffer. It’s actually been a strength. Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown each have over 210 rushing yards with five touchdowns between them. The Rams average nearly 140 rushing yards with a NFL-best nine touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers

While we mentioned the Rams beating up the NFC East, the Niners’ two wins came against the New York teams, two of three winless clubs through five weeks. Quarterback play was awful in the last two defeats and the Niners face a team that enjoys harassing opposing signal-callers. Having Jimmy Garoppolo at closer to full strength would be a boost. Jimmy G. was yanked from the Miami game after completing 7 of 17 for 77 yards. He was picked twice and compiled a passer rating of 15.7.

Nick Mullens got the start the week before tossing a pick six that resulted in the game-winning points for Philly. C.J. Beathard relieved in both games, but he’s not the answer since he already had a shot at the starting gig. The trio has combined to throw seven touchdowns passes and five interceptions with a passer rating of 88.6. The Niners rank in the bottom third in all three categories.

What’s going on with the defense might be even scarier. Allowing Ryan Fitzpatrick to complete nearly 79 percent of his passes for 350 yards and three touchdowns was embarrassing. The Dolphins totaled 436 yards and possessed the football for nearly 37 minutes. The secondary will be without Richard Sherman, who had a setback in his recovery. Pass rushers Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas were lost for the season with injuries.

Nobody’s going to feel sorry for the Niners, they have to get out of this by themselves. And they better figure it out fast with a difficult stretch of games ahead. The Rams have succeeded with balance on both sides of the ball, and they’ve been relatively injury-free. The Niners will feel the effects of their ailments all season. Until SF gets the QB spot back in order I have a tough time backing them giving the UNDER value in this matchup.

NFL Score Prediction: Rams 26, 49ers 20
