The Los Angeles Rams ended years of ineptitude and a long playoff drought in 2017 behind a young quarterback and a rookie coach. They’ve continued with that success and are a favorite to win the NFC again in 2019. The Cleveland Browns have the same combination and are just trying to put together a winning season, something they haven’t done in over a decade. The much-hyped Browns picked up their first win of the season on Monday, bouncing back from a disastrous effort in the opener. They get the NFC champs on Sunday and are a 3-point dog on the current NFL betting line*This article courtesy of Bookmaker.eu

Odds Analysis

The Rams have been favored in every regular season game since the start of last season and they opened as a 2.5-point favorite for Sunday night’s matchup. While they have gone 15-3 straight up in those outings, they’ve been nearly push against the line with a 9-8-1 ATS record. They climbed over the .500 mark on the ATS record by covering the 2-point line against the Saints last week, moving to 2-0 ATS this year. Working against the Jets third-string quarterback, the Browns pulled out a 23-3 win on Monday covering the 6.5-point closing line to go 1-1 ATS. When playing as a home dog last season the Browns went 3-1-1 SU and 4-1 ATS.

Los Angeles Rams

Given what we now know about Carolina and facing the Saints last week without Drew Brees, it’s hard to judge just how good the Rams are. However, the bottom line in the NFL is wins and losses, and for a second straight year the Rams are perfect through two weeks. Last season the Rams were the last team to lose a game starting 8-0. They’ve won 26 of 34 regular season games since Sean McVay became coach in 2017.

The Rams put together an explosive offense under McVay, leading the NFL in scoring in 2017 and placing second last season. The club had a few changes this year, most notably on the interior of the offensive line causing Jared Goff to be under more duress. He was sacked three times and hit seven others last week against the Saints. Goff completed 19 of 28 for 283 yards. However, 123 of those passing yards came on two plays, highlighting the big play ability, but also the struggles to move the football consistently.

While the Rams have totaled 57 points in their opening two games, they’ve been slow out of the gate. They tallied just two field goals in the opening half of last week’s game and have scored just 19 first half points. The Rams averaged over 17 first half points last season to rank second in the NFL behind Kansas City.

Cleveland Browns

With such high expectations coming into the year the Browns put that dreadful opening day loss to Tennessee behind them and picked up their first win by taking down the Jets, 23-3, on Monday night. It makes you wonder if playing in front of the home fans puts added pressure on the group to perform. And adding to the pressure is the first Sunday Night Football game in Cleveland in 11 years. We’ll see how they do this time around.

Thoroughly beating the Jets was a relief, but it could have and probably should have been much worse. The Browns faced New York’s JV team with Sam Darnold, C.J. Mosley and others out. Like I said about the Rams, though, wins and losses are all that count. Myles Garrett teed off against a suspect O line getting three of the team’s four sacks against New York’s backups while holding the Jets to 262 total yards.

We’re still waiting for the Browns offense to show up. There were some good things last week from Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. Mayfield threw for 325 yards and a touchdown with OBJ hauling in six balls for 161 yards, including an 89-yard TD. But Mayfield was harassed again getting sacked three times. He also tossed his fourth pick of the young season and his 73.4 passer rating has him 27th in the league.

Bet Rams at Browns at BookMaker.eu

The Rams feel they are a better defensive team this year and two-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald hasn’t been much of a factor in the first two games. You can look for AD to have a bigger impact this week against a Browns line that hasn’t been very good. And Cleveland continues to shoot itself in the foot with penalties and sloppy play. Those are correctable, but will the Browns get it fixed before Sunday night? I say no and will back the Rams minus the points.

NFL Score Prediction: Los Angeles 30, Cleveland 23
