Thursday Night Football offers up a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship when the Green Bay Packers visit the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners will field a much different team than the one that blasted the Pack on its way to the Super Bowl, though. Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle, two important pieces of the offense, were part of another recent surge of injuries and both could be done for the year, seriously impacting San Fran’s chances of repeating as conference champions. Green Bay has its own issues, especially at running back, but still moved to a 6.5-point favorite after the game hit the board as a pick ‘em.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus ($1600 max bonus)

Odds Analysis

Early lines had the Niners as a slight favorite in this game until the injuries started piling up. With Garoppolo and Kittle joining a number of others on the shelf, the line was quickly wagered in favor of the visitors peaking at Green Bay -6.5. The absence of offensive talent on both sides also forced a dip in the total with that number wagered down a point to its current 49.5. Both teams are coming off losses with the Packers upset, 28-22, at home by Minnesota as a 5.5-point favorite. They’ve dropped two of three SU and ATS yet maintain first place in the NFC North with a 5-2 SU and ATS ledger. The Niners had their two-game SU and ATS win streak end with a 37-27 setback at Seattle as a 1-point dog. San Francisco beat Green Bay twice last season at Levi’s by a combined 74-28 earning a payout both times.

Green Bay Packers

No. 12 remains upright giving Green Bay a decided edge in this matchup. And bettors recognize that by flocking to the Pack. Aaron Rodgers hasn’t put up big passing yardage numbers, but he’s led an efficient attack completing 66 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions. The balanced attack has the ninth-best pass offense and ground game in the NFL heading into Thursday’s matchup.

Rodgers may have to throw the ball more than he’d like with the running back position a mess. Aaron Jones missed the last two contests and is a game-time decision due to a lingering calf injury. Meanwhile A.J. Dillon and Jamal Williams are out due to COVID protocols. The trio makes up over 86 percent of the team’s rushing offense. It looks like Tyler Ervin, who starred at nearby San Jose State, will be the primary back.

The two blowout losses at San Fran last year added to a troubling trend. Since the start of the 2018 season the Packers are 0-5 SU and 1-3-1 ATS when playing a West Coast game. There are some positives, though. Green Bay hasn’t lost consecutive games since 2018 going 8-0 following a setback since then.

San Francisco 49ers

Has any team been slapped harder with injuries than the 49ers? It’s all about survival mode now with nearly half the projected starting lineup on the shelf. And the timing couldn’t be worse with a short week after Garoppolo, Kittle and Tevin Coleman all went down in Sunday’s loss to Seattle. Nick Mullens gets the starting nod after a mixed bag of results this season. He replaced Jimmy G earlier against the Giants and had a monster game throwing for 343 yards.

Following an awful performance against Philadelphia where he threw for 200 yards with one of his two interceptions returned for a touchdown, Mullens was demoted behind C.J. Beathard. In comeback mode last week, Mullens went 18 of 25 for 238 yards and a pair of scores in relief of Garoppolo to get the Niners close after trailing 30-7 in the fourth quarter.

Ideally the Niners would like to run the football. They totaled 285 yards on 42 attempts in the NFC title game last season with Raheem Mostert going for 220 and four touchdowns. Mostert, Coleman and Jeff Wilson are out leaving the duties in the hands of JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon. “We have experience losing guys. Our team knows how to deal with it. What we’re going through now is a little unprecedented, I thing for us and probably for anybody. But I think our guys take it as a challenge,” Kyle Shanahan said.

Winning this game will definitely be a challenge for the Niners. You can expect the Packers to come in overconfident, but going through what they did last season in San Francisco will keep them motivated. We talk about the injuries to the offensive players, keep in mind that the Niners have lost a few guys on the defensive side and this isn’t the stout group that led a Super Bowl run last year. With Rodgers giving the Pack a huge edge I have to lean toward the visitors minus the points.

NFL Score Prediction: Packers 27, 49ers 17

J.J. McCarthy Drafted Number 3 Odds to Patriots

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?

Bet on Jared Verse Draft Position

Jared Verse had an over/under selection number of 15.5 with CBS Sports believing the Florida State EDGE will be chosen by the Seattle Seahawks at No. 16.
