The first season of the Mike McCarthy era was a disaster as the Dallas Cowboys finished 6-10 falling well below their projected win total of 9.5. Things might have been different had Dak Prescott played the entire year, but a season-ending injury in Week 5 derailed those plans. Dak is back, the defense got a major overhaul and the Cowboys are looking for better things in 2021. While the Boys are the most hyped team in the league they may actually live up to their projections this year with 9.5 wins once again the standard on the NFL futures board.

2021 Dallas Cowboys Offense Preview

Had Prescott not been injured in a Week 5 win over the New York Giants the season would have been much different. That’s the risk of betting the futures market, though. The team did what it could to prepare for such a catastrophe bringing in veteran Andy Dalton, but the offense took a plunge when he took over. It’s easy to say the club fell apart when Dak got hurt, but they weren’t winning with him. They were just 1-3 in the games he started and finished. But the offense was solid and held them in a number of games. Prescott was actually leading the league in passing yards prior to his injury.

With Prescott vowing to be “better than I was before” the injury the offense should put up points. And nursing him through an entire season is a must since Garrett Gilbert, Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush are the other QBs currently on the roster. And when Prescott was playing Ezekiel Elliott had better numbers. He wasn’t the same with Dalton at the helm finishing with the worst statistical season of his career. The emergence of Tony Pollard was a bright spot giving the Boys a solid option in the backfield to keep Zeke fresh.

And the group will be whole lot better if key members of the offensive line return. Tackles Tyron Smith, La’el Collins and guard Zack Martin, who have combined for 13 Pro Bowls, missed a total of 36 games in 2020. Getting them back on the field makes the offense that much stronger.

2021 Dallas Cowboys Defense Preview

This is where it all went south for the Cowboys. The group was terrible last season surrendering over 386 yards per game while allowing the most points in franchise history. Needing a change former Falcons coach Dan Quinn was brought in to reconstruct the unit. Quinn had all kinds of success coordinating Seattle’s Legion of Boom defense in the Super Bowl days of the Seattle Seahawks and the hope is that he still has the touch as a coordinator better than he had as a head coach.

When you rank near the bottom of most major statistical categories changes need to be made. Not only do the Boys have a new DC they also have a number of newcomers on that side of the football. They invested heavily in the draft with their top six picks being defenders with all of them getting a chance to crack the roster. Micah Parsons, taken in the first round, is penciled in as a starting linebacker.

One player who is a key to the group’s success is DeMarcus Lawrence. The team paid him handsomely after a breakout 2017 campaign when he recorded 14.5 sacks. He has just 11.5 sacks in the last two seasons combined. There are plenty of new faces on this side of the ball and it’s likely the Boys have a lot more success stopping opponents in 2021 than they did last season.

2021 Dallas Cowboys Schedule Analysis

Playing in a weak division is a plus, but you can say that about every team in the NFC East. Dallas made a late push for the crown winning three in a row before dropping their finale. A pair of losses to the Football Team proved to be the difference as Washington ended with a 7-9 record. Every team should be better - or at least not any worse - in 2021. The Cowboys have been the most active during the offseason and improving on their 2-4 record against division foes will help reach their total.

The Cowboys need to take advantage of a schedule that has them playing only three teams with a winning record in 2020. They get the AFC West and NFC South, divisions that produced the last two Super Bowl winners. But outside of KC and Tampa Bay, the rest of the competition is on equal terms.

Bet Dallas Cowboys Win Total at BookMaker.eu

There is plenty of optimism at the Star as the Boys look to rebound. Last year they lost the guy they could least afford to lose and it cost them. They should be strong offensively with Dak back and if the defense just slightly improves I can see this team winning a minimum of 10 games.
