NFL Betting – 2019 Week 8 Wise Guy Picks

It’s hard to imagine we’re closing in on the midway point of the NFL regular season already. When the betting week concludes Monday night 18 teams will have completed half their schedule. It looks like the last team with a starting quarterback still standing will get an invite to the Super Bowl after Patrick Mahomes was shelved by injury and Marcus Mariota was benched for ineffective play. It may be a matter of time until Andy Dalton and Mitchell Trubisky join him. And still Colin Kaepernick’s phone doesn’t ring.

Last week wasn’t good for the wise guy picks on the NFL betting lines. Mahomes did enough for the Chiefs last week before exiting, slapping sharps who backed the Broncos with a loss. Those wise guys backed the wrong New York team last week siding with the Giants in their tilt with Arizona a week after the Jets helped cashed a winning ticket. Daniel Jones now knows what it’s like to be Eli Manning after getting sacked eight times, losing two fumbles and throwing a pick. Otherwise the G-Men would have won that game. Buying the under in the Jags-Bengals game when it surfaced at 45.5 proved to be a winner.

Now let’s get back to winning some money by following the wise guy leads on the Week 8 schedule. And remember, BookMaker will have spreads and totals for every NFL matchup during the 2019 season. Visit BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to wager on your favorite NFL team.

NFL Week 8 Wise Guy Picks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Tennessee Titans ( -2.5, 46.5 )

A half-point shift on the spread wouldn’t be considered a big deal, but when it moves off a key number there’s something going on. That’s what we have in this game. Tennessee opened as a 3-point home favorite and was backed by nearly 60 percent of the early action. That would maybe cause a change in the juice but not typically the line. And moving slightly against the public signifies some sharp action on the Bucs.

They are called wise guys because they are smarter than I am when it comes to wagering. I find it hard to back the Bucs the way Jameis Winston is playing and their lack of success on the road. The Titans got a boost from Ryan Tannehill last week, though they were lucky to get a win. I guess the wise guys are betting on Winston’s philanthropy tailing off this weekend after his six-turnover game against the Panthers. And it’s always refreshing to return after a bye.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams ( -13.5, 48 )

A three-point shift in the spread is pretty significant in the NFL, especially when there are no extenuating circumstances. And we saw that shift in favor of the Rams for this matchup. LA opened -10.5 and was hit hard at the betting window, but not enough to force the line up to -13.5, which is where it went. Sharps and squares can get along and apparently that’s happening here. And it’s easy to see why. Andy Dalton is crap and the Bengals are crappier. Every day the Bengals thank the NFL gods for the Miami Dolphins.

The Rams snapped out of a funk last week with Jared Goff torturing a bad Falcons defense. Cincy isn’t any better. The Bengals are last against the run so maybe Todd Gurley can prove his doubters wrong. And I don’t think Sean McVay wants to lose to one of his former assistants, giving more fire to the Rams. Hell, I’ll take the Rams even at -13.5.

Philadelphia Eagles at Buffalo Bills ( -2, 42.5 )

With Philly’s offense struggling and Buffalo playing defense at a high level one wouldn’t expect this game to be a track meet. So when the total surfaced at 41.5 nearly 70 percent of the action backed the under. And that seems reasonable considering everything. Then in come the wise guys to mix everything up. When you think about it 42 points isn’t a lot in the NFL, unless you’re the Miami Dolphins. Buffalo was set up twice for scores by its defense last week and Josh Allen can run from anywhere. The Bills tallied 31 times to beat the Dolphins.

Let’s not overreact to the Eagles’ recent struggles. They’ve scored 30 points total in their last two games and Alshon Jeffery was called out by some media types in Philly for a lack of effort. Carson Wentz has put up a lot of points in the past and this team isn’t any different personnel-wise, so you can expect them to break out sooner rather than later. Wise guys are betting on it happening this week.
