The Clippers were favored in each of the first four games and they opened laying 7-points, which if it holds would match the largest spread in the series. LA closed -7 in Game 2 and proceeded to lose 127-121. That came after dropping the opener 113-103 as 6-point chalk. The entire season series has favored the road team with visitors prevailing in six of the seven meetings. Dallas posted the only for the home team with a 105-89 triumph on March 17 to conclude the regular season series. The Mavs shouldn’t be too concerned about what happened on their floor in Games 3 and 4. After all they are 3-0 SU and ATS against the Clips in Staples Center this season. The teams met in the first week of the season with Dallas pasting LA 124-73. They won the first two playoff games by a total of 16 points and they are 4-3 ATS in all games.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavs aren’t going far if Luka Doncic isn’t recovered from the diagnosed cervical strain he sustained in Game 3. Doncic was notably bothered by the discomfort and it showed in his Game 4 performance. The team leader in scoring and assists during the regular season, Doncic scored 19 points on 9 of 24 shooting on Sunday after averaging 39 points during the first three games. “He’s in pain. It appeared to me couldn’t turn left. That’s difficult for a guy that relies on peripheral vision,” Rick Carlisle noted. The good news for Doncic and the Mavs is that there are two full days in between games giving Luka time to heal.
Even if Doncic is close to 100 percent the Mavs will need more from their complementary players. A key performer is Tim Hardaway Jr., who finished third on the team in scoring behind Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis during the regular season. Hardaway was blistering hot in the first two games averaging 24.5 points while making 17 of 27 shots. He struggled the last two games, though, scored a total of 16 points while shooting just 22.7 percent from the floor. The Mavs averaged 121.3 points in their three road games this season compared to just 98.3 points in four home contests.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clips looked like a team of the past losing the first two games of the series at home. That also caused a lot of consternation among fans and backers since they are among the favorites to win their first NBA title. They also showed us that maybe this year is different by taking the next two games on the road to even the series. They need Leonard and George to perform at a high level and the pair was rock solid in Games 3 and 4. Leonard had 29 points and 10 rebounds while George had 20 points. Now the Clips just need to take that intensity back to LA. They may have taken control of the series, but they struggled mightily against the Mavs at home.
Batum played a key role in both games in Dallas. The Clips went small after falling behind in Game 3 with Batum leading the way defensively. He started Game 4 in place of Ivaca Zubac contributing 10 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks. “It’s just 2-2. We are right where we’re supposed to be. So now we’ve got to go home and take care of the home court and take care of this game or we can put ourselves in a bad situation if we don’t do the job,” Batum said.

The series has been strange with the road team winning each of the first four contests. I guess you could say the pressure is on LA now since they have two home games in what is now a best-of-three series. I don’t think the trend is going to continue now that Kawhi and George are playing at their expected level and I anticipate an LA victory in Game 5.
