Somebody once said the series isn’t over until you lose a game at home. The Milwaukee Bucks look to get back into their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Brooklyn Nets when the teams head to Milwaukee for Game 3 on Thursday night. Playing without James Harden for all but 43 seconds of the first two games, the Nets have been nearly flawless holding serve at home to go up 2-0. Harden has been ruled out for Game 3, though his absence hardly mattered in Brooklyn’s 125-86 pasting on Monday night. Despite losing the first two games by a combined 47 points the Bucks are a slight 3.5-point favorite on the Game 3 opening NBA betting line.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

The Nets have been nearly perfect this postseason going 6-1 SU and ATS following their sweep of the first two games of this series. They were catching 2-points on the closing line for Monday’s contest and waltzed to a huge win. It was the first time during the playoffs they played as an underdog. The veteran core knows all too well that the series isn’t over, though. We know the Nets can score the basketball with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving leading the way, but they’ve been strong on the defensive side during the playoffs as well cashing the UNDER in each of their last three games by allowing an average of just 100.7 points in that span. The Bucks need Giannis Antetokounmpo to step up facing a must-win in Game 3. The former MVP tallied just 18 points on Monday and the rest of the offense sputtered around him, again. Milwaukee may have gotten a false sense of worth after sweeping Miami in the first round and they are now facing a heavy dose of reality against a strong Nets club.

Brooklyn Nets

No Harden no problem. Having a Big Three is great when one of them goes down because you still have two of the best in the business. And the two have done damage so far in this series. Durant and Irving combined for 54 points on Monday night making a combined 8 of 14 three-point shots. The Nets have been particularly sharp from distance making 44.4 percent of their three-pointers in the first two games, and they received production from just about everybody on the roster. Nine different players have made a triple in the series with six of them connecting on at least three. The Nets boasted the second-highest scoring offense during the regular season and they’ve averaged 125.5 points scoring at least 115 points in their last six playoff games.

The bright spot for the Nets, though, has been their defense. They weren’t very good during the regular season, but they tightened up during the playoffs allowing 107.7 points per game, nearly eight points less than their season average. They held the Bucks to 30 percent shooting from behind the arc in Game 2 and kept them off the free throw line. Bruce Brown got the starting nod for Harden on Monday contributing 13 points, six rebounds and four assists in an efficient 25 minutes.

Milwaukee Bucks

The good news for the Bucks is that the series is far from being over. It’s just a lot closer to an end point for them than it was a week ago. They failed to take advantage of the Nets without Harden, but they can get right back in the series by holding serve at home. The Bucks won twice on their home floor during the season beating Brooklyn 117-114 and 124-118 in consecutive games in May. They need a turnaround from their play in the first two games, though. Basketball is a funny game and a blowout loss isn’t a precursor of things to come. Milwaukee lost four games by 20 or more during the regular season and responded with wins each time outscoring opponents by nearly 19 points.

“We feel like we’re better than the way we’re playing and we know that. But at this point we can’t really be down. We’ve got to stay positive,” Jrue Holiday said. Playing at home will benefit the Bucks, but they need to be better from distance in order to win. They struggled from three-point range in the first two games making just 24.6 percent of their attempts, and that’s been a big part of their game.

Backing the Bucks in Game 2 wasn’t a good move. However, they are still a good team and a change of venue should help their cause. For a team that led the NBA in scoring during the season points have been hard to come by. And it’s not like the Nets are a defensive powerhouse. I fully expect Milwaukee will be on top of its game since the alternative will leave them in an insurmountable hole.

NBA Score Prediction: Bucks 118, Nets 111
