With one week left in the regular season it’s all about playoff positioning for the teams still in the hunt. The Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors are jockeying for different spots in the Western Conference. Winners of five in a row the Jazz have a slim lead over Phoenix for the top seed in the West and in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Warriors are likely locked into the play-in tournament but their seeding can change over the next few games. They enter the week just a half-game ahead of the Grizzlies for the No. 8 seed.  Bookmaker.eu is offering a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

The Dubs snapped a five-game losing streak in the series with a 131-119 win back in mid-March, one of their 21 home wins this season. Golden State has been impressive on its homecourt drubbing Oklahoma City the previous two games by a combined 60 points. The Warriors have won four of their last five overall going 4-1 ATS in that span to challenge for the No. 7 seed. They are locked into the play-in tournament and need plenty of help to get out of it. The good news is that they play their remaining four games at Chase Center where they are 21-11 SU and 19-13 ATS. Playing without Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz regained their footing in the conference by winning five in a row. They were a massive 16-point favorite in their most recent outing, a 124-116 win over Houston snapping a three-game ATS winning streak. The Jazz have compiled a 50-18 SU and 39-29 ATS record thanks to a top-5 offense and defense. They average nearly 117 points and their plus-9.3 point differential is easily the best in the NBA.

Utah Jazz

There was a question as to how the Jazz would respond when Mitchell went down a few weeks ago. They lost four of their first seven games without him making a race for the top spot in the West. Following a 21-point loss at Phoenix that left the teams tied for the top seed, the Jazz seized momentum by winning the next five, all at home. Locking down the top seed would be a boost since they are a league-best 31-4 at home compared to just 19-14 SU and 16-17 ATS on the road. Even without their leading scorer the Jazz are showing off their offensive firepower.

Dating back to Apr. 28 when they annihilated Sacramento 154-105, the Jazz are averaging 121 points going 6-1 SU and 4-3 ATS with the OVER at 5-2. The series has also been a gold mine for OVER bettors with the clubs exceeding the closing number in each of the last six matchups. Over that span Utah is averaging 120.7 points. Bojan Bogdanovic has stepped up in Mitchell’s absence dropping 20 on the Rockets last time out. It was his seventh straight game with at least 20 points. It was another balanced effort by the Jazz with all five starters scoring in double-figures with Jordan Clarkson adding 21 off the bench.

Golden State Warriors

Stephen Curry tossed his hat in the ring for league MVP with a current stretch of unconscious play. We’re likely to see a barrage of three-pointers in this game with Curry trying to match Utah’s production. The Jazz lead the NBA in threes made and attempted per game while connecting on the third best percentage from behind the arc. While the Jazz do it as a team, Curry is the most prolific individual from distance. He knocked down 11 triples in the 136-97 win over OKC on Saturday, the fifth time in the last 15 games and seventh time overall he’s connected on at least 10 threes. “In an era where the three-point shot is king, Steph is the best one of them all,” Steve Kerr said.

The offensive exploits of the two-time MVP haven’t had much of an impact on the Warriors total. They played over the closing number on Saturday but the UNDER was 8-2 in the previous 10 games. A lot of that has to do with their defense. The Dubs have the fifth-best defensive rating in the NBA while owning the third-best field goal percentage defense. They won’t have to deal with Mitchell on Monday, but the Jazz have plenty of pieces to make life miserable for opponents.

Like I said we can expect a barrage of threes in this game. And if the Jazz and Curry are anywhere close to their season averages the OVER is in serious jeopardy. With their sights set on the No. 1 seed in the West I expect the Jazz to come out firing. They have a deep lineup and they play solid defense. Curry will get his points, but as long as Utah keeps the total at a reasonable number they should prevail.

NBA Score Prediction: Jazz 121, Warriors 114
