The Seattle Seahawks welcome the Minnesota Vikings to the great Northwest on Monday Night Football for a battle between two teams currently clinging to the two wildcard spots in the NFC. Due to losses by the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Redskins, the loser of this game will still hold the second wildcard spot, but a win would be huge for either team to gain some breathing room over the rest of the field. Seattle comes in winners of their last three and has won four in a row against the Vikings. The Seahawks sit as -3 point favorites for this prime time match up.

Seahawks Feasting on NFL’s Average

Seattle has done a good job this year of beating up on the bad teams. They are 5-0 this season against teams that are under .500 this year, but just 2-5 against teams with a winning record. Minnesota is above .500 and is disappointed that they are just barely above that mark as they had Super Bowl aspirations after their playoff run in 2017 and the addition of Kirk Cousins. Seattle needs to prove to themselves that they can run with the best of the best moving forward as we get closer to playoff time.

Wilson Needs to be Wilson

The biggest key for the Seahawks in this one is that Russell Wilson needs to continue to be Russell Wilson. Since Week 5, Wilson has 22 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions with a 128.3 quarterback rating, the best in the entire league. While Wilson has been amazing, he has been helped dramatically by the emergence of the league’s best rushing attack. The Seahawks are averaging almost 150 yards per game on the ground with a league best 5.08 yards per carry. What this has done is allowed Seattle to stay in reasonable down and distances and really open up the play book for Wilson. That is a major factor for success on Monday night: keep your third downs to manageable distances. If Minnesota has to think about both the run and pass on third downs, they will not be able to peel their ears back and try to get in Wilson’s face.

Pick and Prediction

Seattle has always been known as a tough place to play. What many people have forgotten this year is that although the Legion of Boom is no longer, the Seattle defense has made traveling to CenturyLink Field pretty difficult as well. The Seahawks are 5th in the league in points allowed and can really make things difficult on the Vikings. Expect the crowd to be rocking, Wilson to be dealing, and the Seattle defense to turn over Cousins once or twice. Seattle wins and covers 27-20.
