The Lakers are 24-4 as of December 19 and it has a lot to do with James' performance. He has thrived as a point guard, leading the NBA with 10.6 assists per game (a career-best). As of December 19, James also averages 25.9 points and 7.4 rebounds in 34.7 minutes over 28 games, shooting 49.8 percent from the field.

LeBron James led the Lakers to a 101-96 road win against the Hawks on Sunday with 32 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists on 12 of 21 shooting and 4 of 10 from beyond the arc. James explained the keys to that victory: “Being resilient and relying on our defense, knowing that we can get stops in critical times, and just trying to execute on the other end.”

James is playing at a high level this season but some wonder if he should have designed days off for “load management.” This is what he had to say about that:

“Why wouldn’t I play if I’m healthy? It doesn’t make any sense to me, personally. I mean, I don’t know how many games I’ve left in my career. I don’t know how many kids that may show up to a game that are there to see me play,” James said.

“If I’m hurt, I don’t play. If not, I’m playing. That’s what has always been my motto.” He concluded saying: “That’s my obligation. My obligation is to play, play for my teammates and if I’m healthy, then I’m going to play.”

James averaged 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 35.2 minutes over just 55 games last season and the Lakers missed the playoffs. It was his first time missing the playoffs since 2004 but that time helped him recharge.
