Brazil’s former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has formally launched his campaign in hopes of reclaiming the presidency from conservative Jair Bolsonaro.  Lula, as he is affectionately known, enters this race as a pretty heavy -425 favorite compared to Bolsonaro, who pays $26.50 for every $10 bet.

Just days into the campaign and things are already getting mighty evil...literally.

Lula claims his opponent is “possessed by the devil”.

Lula urged voters to punish the incumbent Bolsonaro for his denialist attitude and poor response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If there’s anyone who is possessed by the devil it’s this Bolsonaro,” the former union leader said.

Bolsonaro has accused Lula of wanting to close down churches.

A recent poll shows Lula comfortably ahead of Bolsonaro by 12-points.

Murkowski Advances in Alaska Senate Race

While Congresswoman Liz Cheney lost in a landslide in her home state of Wyoming, another of the Trump critics, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski has advanced to the November general elections on Tuesday.

Murkowski is a -200 favorite to be reelected but Alaska is now using ranked choice voting, making for a more competitive race.

Murkowski was among the top four vote-getters in Alaska's Senate primary, which lumped all candidates together regardless of party. The top four now head to a ranked-choice general election in November.

ABC News reports Murkowski, Republican Kelly Tshibaka and Democrat Patricia Chesbro are projected to advance to the November election.

This same system sees former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin advance as well in her congressional race.

Pence to Testify Before Jan 6 Committee?

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday while speaking at a New Hampshire breakfast he would consider testifying before the House Jan. 6 committee if asked.  That committee is focusing on the Capitol riots of 2021.

"If there was an invitation to participate, I would consider it," Pence said at a New Hampshire breakfast event, according to video from NBC.

The former vice president had previously expressed constitutional concerns over testifying before the committee, which is co-chaired by the outgoing Congresswoman Cheney.

The former vice president was at the Capitol to certify the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 6, 2021 when the building came under siege by supporters of former President Donald Trump in hopes of halting the certification of President Joe Biden's win.

Many in the angry crowd could be heard chanting "Hang Mike Pence!"
