Giants-Reds Betting Preview - May 6: Two Top 7 Bullpens
  • Total generally trending from 8.5 to 8

  • Pomeranz has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his six starts

  • The UNDER is 5-1 in Pomeranz’s last 6 starts overall

The total on the Giants-Reds game has drifted from 8.5 to 8, an indication that the books think this one can go UNDER.   And why not?  Both teams have top 7 bullpens despite sitting a few games under the .500 mark.

Despite this, the last four meetings have gone OVER the current total.

San Francisco is coming in at +130, San Francisco -150.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Drew Pomeranz (1-3, 4.08 ERA) vs. Reds RH Anthony DeSclafani (1-1, 3.48)

Pomeranz has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his six starts, but he's completed six innings just once in that span. He gave up three runs in four frames in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. The one-time All-Star out of Ole Miss tossed seven scoreless innings in his only previous start at Great American Ball Park back in 2016.

The UNDER is 5-1 in Pomeranz’s last 6 starts overall.

DeSclafani is 1-0 with a 0.51 ERA over his last three starts, including back-to-back outings in which he has not allowed a run. The 29-year-old has 20 strikeouts while giving up nine hits in 17 2/3 innings during that dominant stretch. Brandon Belt is 4-for-6 with a home run and a double against DeSclafani, who dominated the Giants through 7 2/3 innings in a matchup last year but has a 6.89 ERA through three career encounters.

The Giants are 5-1 in their last 6 road games vs. a right-handed starter while the Reds are 2-7 in their last 9 games vs. a left-handed starter.

We are giving the UNDER at 55% chance here though this is not an official pick.
