Smith was just 50 when he was found dead Monday night.   Details of his passing were not immediately known.

By 7:30 pm EST Tuesday evening a total of $33,000 had already been raised, much of it in denominations of between $50 and $200.  Many more generous donations were made as well.

From the GoFundMe account:

Gavin was a beloved member of the poker community and a father of two boys, Kingston and Keegan.  Gavin was a dedicated father with sole custody of his sons before passing away unexpectedly.  Since his death, social media has been flooded with stories and remembrances of Gavin and the love that everyone had for him.  The entire poker community is devastated by Gavin’s passing, and it is in these times of loss and sadness when the poker community comes together as one to support the loved ones of those we’ve lost.

Gavin’s friends and his long-time lawyers/agents at Poker Royalty have organized this GoFundMe page to provide financial support for Gavin’s two sons.  ALL proceeds from this page will be placed in a law firm escrow account until a trust (or another legal vehicle) can be established to solely benefit Gavin’s children.

A friend of Gavin's chimed in via Twitter, noting one of the kind gestures from the late poker pro:

Gavin Gave 10k to a widow of a friend who had an untimely death back in 2006 , the community should give back to someone who deserved it.
