Hot Teams

AL East

Tampa Bay Rays - The Rays are winning around 70% of their games of late and own a 70-45 record, four games up from the imploding Red Sox and 7 up from the Yankees.

New York Yankees - They were winning around 70% of their most recent 10 games now and were nine games above the .500 mark.  It appears as if New York may have solved their first half of season woes to some extent.

Toronto Blue Jays - At 61-51, this is a team that can certainly be wagered on.  Like the Yankees, they are winning around 70% of their last ten games of late.

Boston Red Sox - Despite being in the thick of things with a 67-51 record, the Red Sox have come unraveled in recent weeks.

----

AL Central

Chicago White Sox - Winners of 6 of their last ten coming into Friday, Chicago sits a comfortable 11 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians.

----

AL West

Oakland Atheltics - They had won seven straight ahead of Friday's play and own a 67-48 record.  The A's were 1.5 games under a now struggling Astros squad.

Houston Astros - Until this team gets out of its current funk, we would highly recommend staying away.

----

NL East

Philadelphia Phillies - This team has come alive in recent weeks.  Their 60-56 record is not exactly impressive, but they are playing at an 70% win rate right now.

Atlanta Braves - Another team that does not have the scariest record at the moment, they are playing at better than a 70% win rate at just over the .500 mark.  They are pretty much tied with Philadelphia now.

----

NL Central

Milwaukee Brewers - They own a 70-46 record and are playing at close to a 70% win rate at the moment.  What's not to like?

Cincinnati Reds - Down 7.5 games from the Brewers coming into Friday, the Reds are still solid and own a 63-54 record.  They are playing at around a 70% win rate.

----

NL West

San Francisco Giants - They are playing at an 80% win rate and are 5 games above the Dodgers.

LA Dodgers - LA is playing at around a 70% win rate after struggling a bit. They still own a 69-46 record and one should have no qualms when it comes to betting on them.

San Diego Padres - They've won 6 of their last 10 ahead of Wednesday and own a solid 66-51 record, even if they are now nine games behind the red hot Giants.

Ice Cold Bullpens

Colorado Rockies - The Rockies have the worst bullpen ERA in baseball right now (5.45).

Hot Tip

Thursday August 19 - You better believe Michael Wacha is going to pitch well after giving up seven runs and 11 hits in five innings Saturday night against the Twins.  The problem is he'll be starting against the dreadful Orioles at home, meaning a high price.  They were expected to start Jorge Lopez (3-13, 6.14), so even an UNDER might be out of the question.  Still, this is a game we want to monitor.

Top Trends (Coming Into Friday)

  • The last six games in the Rockies-49ers series have gone OVER the total, half of those were played in San Francisco.
  • Rockies are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in San Francisco.
  • Dodgers are 20-9 in the last 29 games and 18-4 in the last 22 games.
  • There have only been 3 UNDERs in the last 18 in the Rays-Twins series.
  • Milwaukee is 15-5 versus the Pirates in their last 20 meetings.

Game Watch

1. Dodgers @. Mets - The line here is as low as -160 Dodgers.

Max Scherzer (9-4, 2.67) vs. Carlos Carrasco (0-0, 6.75)

Scherzer fanned six in 3 1/3 scoreless innings prior to a rain delay in Tuesday's game against the Phillies.  His previous start with the Dodgers was a win over the Astros.

Carlos Carrasco (0-0, 6.75) - Carrasco pitched 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball and struck out five Wednesday versus the Marlins and is coming into this one with plenty of rest having last pitched August 5 following an August 10 game suspension.

We will not be offering a pick on this game.

2. Rays @ Twins - The total is 10.5

Rays Luis Patino (2-3, 4.64) vs. Charlie Barnes (0-2, 6.08)

Patino allowed four runs over six frames Tuesday versus the Red Sox, taking a no-decision in the Rays' 8-4 win.

Barnes was touched up for five runs over four innings in Wednesday's loss to the Reds.

Following a shutout Saturday, we think the Rays should light it up here. Prior to Saturday's shocker, the Rays hadn't scored fewer than 8 in their prior six games.

Take the OVER 10.5 here

Recap

Not exactly the way we anticipated this one to go but we'll take it with a Tampa Bay shutout and Minnesota scoring 12 runs to go OVER the 9.5.  That's two wins in a row.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
