Hot Teams

AL East

Tampa Bay Rays - The Rays are winning around 70% of their games of late and own a 76-48 record and they will need to keep playing hard to ensure a resurgent New York is kept at bay.

New York Yankees - They were 10-1 coming into Thursday's game and are now at 73-53 and just four games down from the lead.   Great value now to win the World Series after opening as the favorite with a payout of $950 on every $100 bet.

----

AL Central

Chicago White Sox - 72-52 was their record.  But the White Sox were playing just .500 baseball at the moment, perhaps because they are in such a comfortable lead in the AL Central.  They were 11.5 up from the Cleveland Indians.

----

AL West

Seattle Mariners - Though 5 games behind Houston and 3.5 games behind Oakland, the Mariners own a 69-58 record and continue to play best in this division currently.  They have won 70% of their most recent games.  Both Houston and Oakland appear to be imploding while the Mariners are playing hot ball right now.

----

NL East

Atlanta Braves - Heading into Monday, they were now up 4.5 games over the Phillies and playing at an 90% win rate. They owned a 68-57 record but were playing that other hot team in the league, the Yankees.

----

NL Central

Milwaukee Brewers - They own a 76-49 record and are playing at close to a 70% win rate at the moment.  What's not to like?

Cincinnati Reds - They own a 69-57 record but are 7.5 games behind the Brewers.  They are winning 70% of their games in the last 10.

----

NL West

San Francisco Giants - They are playing at an 70% win rate and are 2.5 games above the Dodgers.  They are 78-43.

LA Dodgers - The Dodgers are back!  They are playing at a 70% win rate. They own a 78-47 record.

Top Trends (Coming Into Thursday)

  • White Sox are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Toronto.
  • There has only been one OVER in the last 11 meetings of the White Sox vs. Blue Jays series.
  • Reds are 9-1 in the last 10 games versus the Marlins, three of those in Miami.
  • Giants are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings vs. the Braves (2019 last meeting).
  • The UNDER is 7-1-1 in the last 9 meetings of the Yankees-Athletics series (coming into Thursday).
  • Yankees are 7-21 in the last 28 meetings in Oakland.

Game Watch

1. Reds @ Marlins

Wade Miley (10-4, 2.88) vs Zach Thompson (2-5, 2.97)

The Reds come into this one at -155.

Miley struggled in a no-decision against the Marlins on Saturday, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks.  He shut out the Cubs for seven innings and struck out seven in the Reds' 14-5 victory his previous start.

Thompson pitched decently in a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday, surrendering two runs on three hits over his five frames.  But he hasn't had a win in two months.  His ERA is only slightly off from Miley's however.

Miley we suspect will be out for redemption following that lackluster start against the Marlins.

Still we hate that Thompson is really needing that elusive win and that makes this game a dangerous one to pick despite Miami's woes.

2. Giants @. Braves

Kevin Gausman (12-5, 2.47) vs. Max Fried (11-7, 3.49)

Gausman is dealing with side effects from a recent COVID-19 vaccine shot and is eligible to start depending on how he is feeling.  Most folks do recover within 24 hours so we anticipate him to start. The 30-year-old right-hander is 2.47 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 174/46 K/BB ratio across 146 innings this season.  Gausman surrendered five runs (two earned) on six hits over 3 2/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday's win over the A's.

Fried pitched the first shutout of his big league career on Friday, limiting the Orioles to just four hits over nine brilliant innings.  He has had four consecutive wins.

3. Brewers @ Twins

Eric Lauer (4-4, 3.59) vs. Andrew Albers (0-0, 2.25)

We sure as Hell are not taking Minnesota here.  Milwaukee is a -134 favorite. Albers is probably the better pitcher though.

Lauer yielded three runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Nationals.  His prior start was also a no-decision but, in that one, he allowed a single run.

4. Yankees @ Athletics -

Oakland is +130 here.  The total is 7.5.

Gerrit Cole (12-6, 2.92) vs. Sean Manaea (8-8, 3.77)

Cole recorded six strikeouts over six scoreless innings on Saturday in a win over the Twins.

Sean Manaea surrendered two runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings while taking a no-decision in Saturday's loss to the Giants. Manaea has struggled since August 4.

Cole has allowed just 17 hits in 109 at bats vs. the A's.  Yankees batters are 16 of 70 at bats versus Manaea. Joey Gallo has two homers against him but is just .206 currently.

Seven of the last ten games between these two teams have resulted in 8 or fewer runs.  Cole vs. Manaea we can shed a run off that number to get us below our 7.5 total.

GULP!  We are going for another UNDER.  This time UNDER 7.5 in this game.

Recap

Six straight wins for us and we hope that streak continues Friday.  On Thursday night we got the UNDER on the Giants-Mets game.  San Francisco also won this game.  And while we didn't have the Giants they go 6-1 in their last seven meetings against New York.  We did feel Carlos Carrasco would have a good outing for the Mets and he did.  After allowing two runs, Carrasco enjoyed two strong innings and the Mets ultimately tied it before the Giants closed the game 3-2.
