Texas Stance Towards Gambling

Despite being home to dozens of sports teams, including successful college programs, state lawmakers refuse to embrace sports betting. As such, one should not expect to have in-state retail sportsbooks any time soon. There are no brick and mortar sportsbooks anywhere near Houston as a result.

Instead, for two decades now, Texans have relied on tried and true sports betting sites operating from and licensed outside the state.

Jazz Sports has been around since 1997 with the parent company owning land-based casinos throughout Costa Rica and retail sportsbooks in Latin America.

For recreational gamblers, Jazz Sports offers a FREE $10 just for signing up and placing one bet for that amount or more.

Gambling911.com readers tend to go more for the 20% cash signup bonus with just a 5X rollover (bet) requirement (example: open your account with $500 and receive a FREE $100).

All of these offers are available to Texas residents 18 years or older.

Houston Bets

The Astros were the co-favorites to win the 2019 World Series along with the LA Dodgers as of Mid-August when this was going to press.

With a sophisticated use of analytics and a culture of frankness in the clubhouse, Houston has become the envy of M.L.B., the New York Times suggested.

Houston also has the Rockets in the NBA, a team with the 5th shortest odds to win the NBA Championship in 2020 with a payout potential of $900 for every $100 bet.

Then there's the Texans in the NFL.

Indianapolis and Jacksonville are likely to be tougher customers in the once super weak AFC South this season, leaving the Texans a bit under the radar.

Athlon writes of the Texans:

Based on the Texans’ investment in the offensive line and secondary, if they improve enough in pass protection and coverage, they’re capable of winning the AFC South again. Deshaun Watson is an amazing talent who can throw and run. His maturity should help reduce the sacks. They could have one of the NFL’s most successful passing games if Will Fuller and Coutee stay healthy and one of the young tight ends develops into a formidable threat. If the Texans can develop a third pass rusher to go with JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, it’ll improve the coverage immensely. This is a talented team, but it still has holes and plays in a competitive division that should be strong from top to bottom.

In college football, the Longhorns were coming in at 25/1 odds (9th shortest) to win the College Football Championship.

The Texas A&M Aggies were at 80/1 odds of winning the College Football Championship.

There won't be a whole lot of love for the Cougars in college football this year as they were listed at -120 to win UNDER 7.5 regular season games.
