What Were They Thinking? A $4K Bet on the Falcons to Win the 2023 Super Bowl?

Sports reporter Darren Rovell last week tweeted out that someone bet $4000 to win $1 million for the Atlanta Falcons to win the 2023 Super Bowl.  The bet, according to Rovell, was placed at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

BetUS will pay out $250 for every $100 bet for the Falcons to start the season 0-4.  That might be the better bet.  They also have the Falcons favored to win OVER 4.5 regular season games.

As far as the Super Bowl goes,  Atlanta was 6th from the longest odds at 150-1.  A $100 bet pays $15,000.

Athlon Sports wrote of the Falcons prospects this season:

The Atlanta Falcons won't be a contender in 2022; rather, they'll be a team still trying to find itself and pave a path back into the conversation. With a lot of young talent and some growing to do on the sideline, they could be competitive on a week-to-week basis, even if the losses come as frequently as the wins. The team will see if (Marcus) Mariota or (Desmond) Ridder has what it takes to be the quarterback of tomorrow, or if 2023 will be about getting the QB the team needs to be a potential playoff team going forward.

ESPN has Atlanta dead last among all NFL teams on its Power Rankings.

Michael Rothstein of ESPN observed:

"Not many Falcons players or coaches are on the hot seat at this point. But (Marlon) Davidson, the third-year defensive lineman out of Auburn, has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career and missed the preseason opener thanks to injury. While it's unlikely at this point he would be cut, what role he would have for Atlanta now and in the future is very much in question if he can't remain on the field."

Following the Falcons preseason game against the Jets, Mariota appeared to have strengthened his hold on the quarterback job.

“The last couple years were a good reset for me, but I’m excited about the opportunity, excited about this team,” said Mariota, who was a backup the last two years in Las Vegas and hasn’t started a regular-season game since 2019 with Tennessee.
