Detroit Lions vs Cleveland Browns Betting Preview, Prediction

Something is telling me to watch out for this Cleveland Browns team in this game. The rushing attack led by a trio of Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson, and Nick Chubb has been successful thus far in the preseason, ranking seventh in the league. They’ll play a team that is loaded with pass rushers, but lost Haloti Ngata this season.

Ngata is getting a bit long in the tooth, but is still one of the best run stoppers in football. That matchup may be the tipping point in this contest. If the Browns can capitalize on the void left by Ngata, their presence in the running attack can put some points up on the board while also hogging the time of possession. Those two things, typically lead to victories, exhibition or not.

Rookie Quarterback for Cleveland

The progression of rookie quarterback, Baker Mayfield, the Browns also look more consistent than most teams when their second team comes in to attempt to show their mettle. Before I go into too much praise singing on behalf of the Browns, I do understand they only put up 5 points last week, but that was also against the defending champion, Philadelphia Eagles, who have very few flaws.

All in all, I like the aggression we’ve seen from the Browns on defense and I am surprised at the consistent decision making of the offensive newcomers for the squad as well.

Jarvis Landry has moved all over the field and Carlos Hyde has run roughshod over defenses, with a nice change of pace from rookie, Nick Chubb. David Njoku has looked promising as the primary pass catching tight end in his second year campaign. On defense, look for Myles Garrett to step up and be the NFL’s next perennial all-star pass rusher. He’s looked fantastic thus far.

Lions with Some Changes

I can’t talk about a Lions game without singing praises to two players in particular, Kenny Golliday and Kerryon Johnson have both looked like studs this preseason. I feel like these two young men will be fantasy standouts if you’re looking for a sleeper! Even so, I like the Browns and their coordinators in this one. Todd Haley has this offense looking like it could hang with the big guns on the NFL’s best. Greg Williams has been one of the NFL’s best defensive coordinators and has had successes with some of the worst groups the league has seen, and this team has some playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Browns Top Lions

Hopefully they have enough veteran leadership and less internal dissention to avoid another catastrophic season. I have high hopes for Cleveland and yes, I understand that may be blinding me some in my prediction here, but take it or leave it, I’ll pick the Browns to win 14-10. Take the Browns at YouWager!

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
