There was some upheaval at the bottom of the top-25, but the top of the list remained intact following an eventful weekend of college football. Clemson retained its stranglehold on the No. 1 spot by taking down No. 12 Texas AM and heads to Syracuse for an ACC tilt with the Orange as part of the Week 3 schedule. Clemson’s last regular season loss was in Syracuse during the 2017 season when the Tigers fell, 27-24, as a 23.5-point favorite. The Orange has covered four times in the last five meetings and they are getting 26.5-points on the opening college football betting lines.

Unlike last week when we had two mega matchups between ranked foes, there won’t be as much drama in Week 3 of the 2019 season with no such games on the docket. Two teams that were ranked last week but dropped out of the poll after losing square off against teams in this week’s top-25. Syracuse bowed out of the poll after getting thumped by Maryland and Stanford also fell from the rankings. Following their loss to USC the Cardinal heads across the country to take on No. 17 UCF as a 7-point dog.

Four ranked teams are looking at spreads north of 30-points this week. Notre Dame is back in action after an early season bye with the Irish laying 36.5-points to New Mexico. Auburn had a tougher than expected time with Tulane, but escaped with a 24-6 victory. The Tigers are favored by 35-points over Kent State.

BookMaker will have spreads and totals for every FBS matchup during the 2019 season. Visit BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to throw down on your favorite college football team.

Top 25 Week 3 Matchups

No. 1 Clemson ( -26.5 ) at Syracuse, Saturday, Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC)

Has any team played Clemson tougher over the last few seasons? Considering Syracuse is one of just two teams to beat the Tigers since the 2017 season, the answer might be no. Cuse posted a huge upset two years ago knocking off Clemson 27-24 at the Carrier Dome as a 23.5-point dog. The Orange ventured into Death Valley last season and nearly did it again after Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the game. Cuse had a 10-point fourth quarter lead, but backup Chase Brice led a pair of scoring drives, the last ending with 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give Clemson a 27-23 victory. Syracuse covered the 24.5-point closing line and is 4-1 ATS in its last five meetings with the Tigers.

Pittsburgh at No. 13 Penn State ( -17 ), Saturday, Sept. 14, 12 p.m. ET (ABC)

Is Penn State worthy of being the No. 13 ranked team in the country? We didn’t learn much about them after pasting Idaho in the opener. Okay, we did learn that the Nittany Lions are fast and can dominate an FCS foe. Last week might have been a wakeup call, or it showed us that PSU is overrated, I’m not sure yet. There were a number of holes that needed filling in the lineup and the Lions are still a work in progress. They overcame a sluggish start and 10-7 halftime deficit to beat Buffalo, seizing momentum with a 28-point third quarter. Penn State covered improving to 2-0 SU and ATS, and needed to wake up from a snooze heading into its rivalry game with Pitt. The Nittany Lions opened -17 and with a matchup against Maryland in Week 4, they better not overlook the Panthers.

No. 21 Maryland ( -8 ) at Temple, Saturday, Sept. 14, 12 p.m. ET (CBSSN)

What is going on with the Terps? We didn’t learn anything about them after a 79-0 win over Howard in the opener. Then they hung 63 on Syracuse in a convincing victory that vaulted them to No. 21 in the poll. Can Maryland keep the offense plugging away? If so, this week’s matchup with Temple looks good at -8. Only two teams in the AP poll era scored more points than Maryland’s 142 in the first two games of a season.

Florida State at No. 25 Virginia ( -7.5 ), Saturday, Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m. ET (ACCN)

The Cavs are salivating at the chance to get back at Florida State. For years the Noles dominated the ACC and Virginia, but that seems like a long time ago. FSU struggled to beat Louisiana-Monroe, needing a botched Warhawks’ PAT in overtime to escape with a 45-44 win and avoid an embarrassing loss as a 22.5-point favorite. Meanwhile, the Cavs are trending up in Bronco Mendenhall’s fourth season and they showed why they are the favorite to win the ACC Coastal. For the first time the Cavs are favored to beat FSU, laying 7.5-points on the opening college football betting line.
