PokerStars forbids those from Texas from playing for real money on their website.  Alternatives include Americas Cardroom, available to play for real money in all 50 states.

While the most popular poker game may be called Texas Hold'em, the state of Texas prohibits betting on card games is illegal in the Lone Star State.

Sites like PokerStars had once claimed that they were able to accept players from the Lone Star State since the game was actually being played on their servers outside the United States where online poker is legal.

PokerStars would ultimately get into hot water with the U.S. government and opted to exit the market back in 2011.

Americas Cardroom is one of the few sites that has long served the U.S. market and is currently offering a $10 million guaranteed online tournament with a $1 million first place prize.  Americas Cardroom tends to rank as the 8th largest online poker site in the world.  It also offers a sportsbook and online casino.
