Can I Bet on Bovada From New York?

Bovada is no longer accessible to new customers from the state of New York.  Bookmaker is among the dozen or so online gambling sites that do accept customers from the Empire State.

New York will be opening sportsbooks in casino locations within the state in 2019. Mobile sports betting from businesses operating within the state of New York is less likely following a contentious hearing on the subject May 8.

Gaming operators, representatives from sports leagues, and other gaming interests were present to hear witness testimony for and against mobile sports wagering.

Further differences were voiced in regard to taxation.  The proposed legislation calls for a model similar to that of New Jersey, around 10% at the casinos and slightly more taxed on mobile.

And just as in a handful of other states (i.e. Illinois), the controversial "integrity fee" has reared its ugly head.  The current New York measure calls for an 0.2 percent "integrity fee".  This fee has mostly come to light in states such as New York that are home to a major sports league.

The powerful horse racing industry expressed disappointment that it had been shut out of this legislation altogether.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, who did not appear at the hearing and did not have a representative from his administration there, has already voiced his opposition of mobile sports wagering statewide.

Bovada stopped taking bets from New York State residents back in 2011 following legal concerns.

Bovada is a popular website and one of the largest U.S.-facing Web gambling sites.
