Can I Bet the NFL Online From New York City Now?

The Meadowlands Racetrack is set to launch legalized sports betting in mid-July, well ahead of the upcoming NFL season.  Those living in New York City will be able to bet the NFL this season with an approximate 30 minute commute (assuming normal traffic).  Folks living in New York City can still bet the NFL online with any number of internationally licensed sportsbooks, many of which have been in business for nearly 20 years.

Jeff Gural, who manages the northern New Jersey track, told The Associated Press that his racetrack was set to begin offering sports betting on July 15.

The announcement comes just as New York State lawmakers went into recess for the remainder of the year without passing legislation allowing bets on sports.

"New York did me such a favor by not passing sports betting," Gural said. "That leaves me the entirety of New York City, Long Island, Westchester County. There are 15 million people that live within 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the Meadowlands. They gave me a tremendous gift."

Online sports betting will not yet be available from the track outside of via smartphones accessing international web wagering sites.
