One can bet the Kentucky Derby from a number of top online sites accessible to those living in Tennessee.

The state itself is in the process of legalizing sports betting online.  Horse betting over the Internet has long been permitted.

After a vote of approval last week in the House of Representatives, the Senate on Tuesday passed legislation that would permit online sports gambling beginning July 1.  Tennessee will become the first state to allow online sports wagering only without any retail outlets (sportsbooks).

While Governor Bill Lee is not exactly in favor of permitting bets on sports, he has vowed not to stand in the way.

"The governor has said he does not believe that the expansion of gambling is best, but he recognizes that many in the legislature found this to be an issue they want to explore further," said Laine Arnold, Lee's press secretary. "He plans to let this become law without his signature."
