The demand for online sports betting in Tennessee is higher than nearly any other US state right now, but apps available for iPhones will likely be out of the equation at least through the rest of 2019.

The reason: Apple will be enforcing a new policy that requires compliance with coding.  Few if any of the current sports betting apps in the legal US market meet the protocol.  And it will take 6 to 12 months for companies to comply, should they even choose to do so.  The task is widely considered monumental.

Tennessee residents have options nonethess.  The state will be hosting sportsbooks that can be accessed via web browsers soon.  Offshore sportsbooks, many in business for 20 plus years now, have long been accessible to Tennessee residents and feature payouts within hours along with top bonuses up to $1000 in some cases.

Gambling911.com has routinely monitored regional interest in sports betting in the US.  Tennessee ranks among the top three states as of July 2019 in terms of sports wagering searches along with California and Texas, the two most populous states.

For regular readers of the Gambling911 website, this should not come as much of a shock.  When Tunica, Mississippi casinos first introduced sportsbooks, Tennesse became the site's top referrer.  Memphis is a mere hour north of Tunica.

But now Arkansas has just opened its first sportsbook in West Memphis, right over the river from Memphis, TN.

And it gets better.

Tennessee does not have any casinos, but the state just legalized online sports betting.

This could happen by the start of the 2019 football season.  We do not yet know who the providers will be.  But Gambling911.com believes Draftkings and FanDuel will be among the first in line.  With this in mind, we should start seeing a significant increase in their ad spend in the Volunteer State, assuming that's not the case already.  Both companies will want to spend bigly to gain market recognition.

Offshore books will be the biggest winners in Tennessee.  That's because operators will be required to obtain commercial licenses to offer the popular in-play wagering platform.  The major sports leagues will have great influence on what can be allowed as a result.  They can - and will - restrict the type of bets that can be offered.

Furthermore, in-game proposition bets will be prohibited during college games.  The Tennessee Vols football team is among the most wagered on in the nation, and certainly in Tennessee.

Operators will pay approximately 27 cents of every dollar of revenue in Tennessee.  This will likely result in bad lines and less attractive bonus offers.

Like most states, Tennessee requires sports bettors to be 21 or older.  Offshore books do have a competitive edge here, with the minimum age 18 and up.
